Hair Porosity

Porosity is your hair's ability to absorb moisture and is broken down into three categories low, normal, and high. The Porosity test is a good indicator of what category your hair falls into.

  • Low Porosity Hair

If your hair strand floated at the top of the glass this was because the water couldn't get inside of it and weigh it down, forcing it to sink. It means your cuticles are a little tight and pretty resistant to receiving water and moisture. Using heat is an excellent way to help lift the cuticle to get moisture for your hair. After wetting your hair and sealing it with a heavy cream or oil try sitting under a hooded dryer then condition your hair.

  • Normal Porosity Hair

Your hair absorbs and retains the perfect amount of moisture. Your hair is healthy and happy.

  • High Porosity Hair

If your hair strand sank, it's likely that your hair has holes and openings that allowed water to easily flow in, quickly sinking the strand to the bottom. Most of the time your hair absorbs products quickly but yet loses the moisture just as fast. If this is your care, try using butter and oils to help lock in moisture your strands naturally easily lose.
